TVP Bars?

Postby carrie » Thu May 12, 2005 5:36 pm

Hi,

I am looking for a recipe from the old ZonePerfect site for TVP Bars.

It started with fructose and boiling water, then mixed in ingredients including peanut butter and tvp. All of the recipes from the old Zone site are gone, and I understand the terrible "troll" created the original recipe, but there was a variation that was nice from another poster (named Brandon, I think) that was balanced correctly. Anyway, I am sure I could figure it out if I could just find a link to the original recipe. An internet search gave me a lot of nothing. They were quick and easy to make and much cheaper than the bars in the stores.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks,
Carrie

Hi Carrie,
The waters you are treading in are contaminated with Trolls and Sharks.

Rich did create the recipe and later alleged that ZP STOLE it.

Boiling fructose in water is IMO not a copyrighted process and many wonderful creations followed that simple process. The greatest of all being Anne-Marie's zoned fudge.

I do not have the recipe you seek, but I sure hope this explanation helps.

Hi, Graeme,

Thank you so much for the warning... I, sadly, am all too familiar with the dangerous troll/shark containing waters, I stopped going to the Zone forums altogether awhile ago because they became so hateful and sarcastic in tone.

I never thought that making a "marshmellow" base using fructose and boiling water was a copyrighted procedure either, but "certain" folks did claim that, and the alleged ZP "theft," I remember now.

Thankfully, since I posted this question, I found my old printed copy of the recipe along with the alterations which made it actually better balanced (for my way of calculating the ingredients I used, anyway) and more to the Zone principles. I do love Anne-Marie's fudge recipe and make it fairly often, although I have never tried the non-chocolate version. (Am I thinking of the right recipe?) I'll have to give that a try sometime soon. Yummy!

IMO you can never have too many options for quick, nutritious and portable Zone snacks. I seem to be cooking less and less lately, having gone back to university to complete my long-postponed degree. Too much eating on the run or in class these days.

I appreciate the reply, Graeme, you have always been helpful and informative when I needed information.

Well, I'm off to the kitchen! Happy Cooking!

Hi Carrie,
Thanks for the kind words. It is great to see people with an understanding of the history.

Good luck with the studies and please please please, keep posting. We will ensure that "good people" like yourself get every chance to express their opinions in a troll free environment.
