Does anyone have a good meatless recipes?

Postby sweetlovr » Thu Feb 10, 2005 5:02 pm

Since lent is here again I was wondering if anyone has any good meatless recipes since I can't eat meat on Fridays until Easter. I have made fish and shrimp but I only have a few ways I know how to fix it and after a while I get tired of eating the same thing. Thanks.

Scallops in garlic and white wine.

Crayfish

Fresh fried Salmon

Paua

Mussells

Pippi

Trout

Flounder

Orange Roughy

The list is endless, just wander down to the local bay and catch some.

Well out my window i can see the wild Tasman sea. And out the other window I see the South pacific ocean.

I guess If I wanted trout It would be a 2.5 hour drive to Rotorua. Last time I fished there we caught 18 in 3 hours.

Still we all get to choose where we live

True--but I can't help but think you are one fortunate man.

My black bean chile recipe is made with TVP or veggie ground round and is quite tasty.

Zoned Black Bean Chili
(from Anne-Marie's kitchen)

1 cup *TVP (prepared - 1 cup dry TVP with 1 cup boiling water - let sit 5 minutes)
5 - 6 mushrooms, sliced
2 cloves chopped garlic
½ cup chopped onion
½ cup chopped red pepper (or jalapeno, if you like it hot)
1 28 oz. can diced tomatoes (or crushed)
1 can tomato paste
1 can water (tomato paste can)
1 19 oz. can black beans (drained)
1 19 oz. can lentils (drained)
1 ½ tbsp. chili powder
½ - 1 tsp. cumin
½ tbsp. cocoa
1 tbsp. fructose, 1 tbsp. vinegar
* 1 block of TVP = 7 grams protein (2 1/2 tbsp. or 15 grams)
Sauté onions, mushrooms, garlic and pepper until soft.
(I use Pam spray).

Put a rack on the burner ie cookie rack so beans do not burn. Combine all of the above ingredients and bring to a boil. Simmer for about 1 hour. Makes 8-1 cup servings.

All I have is the muddy Mississippi River and I don't think I am going to eat anything that comes out of that. My husband on the other hand loves river fish. Yuk.

The joke that will never die--I'll just say that the Lake is much cleaner than the days of spontaneous combustible Cuyahoga--it just doesn't have the same ring as "Tasman Sea" or "South Pacific".

Hi Scott,
If you ever get a chance to visit NZ, Please let me know.

I certainly see the options differently from here. I will be very happy to show you MY world.

Mmmmmmm are you trying to make things difficult ?

We kinda lost that Cup a couple of years back. Sure it was Kiwi's that won it, but they were using Swiss money so the next defence will be in Europe.

The NZ boats were out training in the Waitemata harbour the other day, so they are getting in good practice for the next challange. If you just want to see the Kiwi boats, then no problem.

The Kiwi Skipper (Russell Coutts) that won the cup the last 3 times got sacked from the Swiss syndicate, so the next challenge will be interesting to say the least.

It's amazing the things you can do when you have an off-shore Swiss bank account! 8)

Surely the best sailors in the world will have the Cup back safely by the time I can make a trip out there.
